A relaxing kitchen area

We have started the renovations of our kitchen this weekend. To see what it looked like before see here...By that we  mean the destructions of tiles and the removal of outdated light fixtures. After 6 hours of work we have a clean slate to work with.

The hub beginning the destruction

Under the light fixture there was 50 year old wall paper

The walls will be painted a Tulle White (light grey) and the cabinets will be revarnish to a darker color. We will also replace the hardwares for something more sleek and modern. The kitchen will also be outfitted with a new cook top, wall mounted oven and hood range. We will replace the gigantic light with a modern pendant fixture and will sew roman shades for the window by the sink. We will keep the sink and put a new faucet that we got for a bargain. The handy grandpa D is making us a new black laminate counter top as well as new drawers with scrap pieces he kept from his job. We were planning to redo the back splash with white subway tiles with a inset of blue glass tiles. This is what we called our high low project, mixing one low end and one high end material for a cost effective look. But....On our first visit at the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store located on Notre-Dame Street in Montreal we hit the jack pot my friends....We score sand blasted glass tiles with a carrera marble, detailing at 16.00$ a square foot at Home Depot for 3.50$ per square foot!!!! That was one productive bargain hunting. Its a thing of beauty. At that price we are redoing the whole backsplash (465 sq feet of it) in glass tiles for only 180.00$!!!!!

So our environementally friendly, reusing, recycling and wallet friendly renovations is staring well:
1- Low VOC betonel paint
2- The tiles from a Non-profit organization
3- Revarnishing the kitchen cabinets
4- We only have about 45 L of trash!!!!!

No bad at all!!!!

Roooarrrrr say The Hub, mama lion and bouclette
