Then one day....After doing a U-turn on a little street in our neighborhood, I noticed a piece of furniture sitting on the curb in my rear view mirror! Could it be a 60's dresser left on the side of the road like a vulgar piece of garbage? Being 9 and a half months pregnant i didn't try to lift the dresser to put it in my car: I had to fight the urge to do so. I just prayed I could come back with my better half and that it would still be there.
Then the Hub came with me to ask if they were throwing it out! And they were, so we took this baby home, dancing to the furniture gods. The hub spotted the metal seal right away: Malcolm Furniture-No-mar finish- Better built furniture! Real vintage Baby!
Now, the works begins: Scratches! Bangs! Dings! Water and sun damaged! Covered with contact paper (really??? Contact paper), paint splatter and mud!
This is what it looked like:
After 45 minutes of wiping it with vinegar and water, removing as much grub as possible, we sang to the furniture gods again. After removing the contact paper and realizing that this wasn't a veneer covered piece of furniture but a solid wood dresser that could be refinished and stain with some good elbow grease....Thank you furniture gods! Thank you. Now time to do some sanding and some refinishing!

Yannick! It was meant to be finally! Really love the angled look of those drawers, and Malcolm absolutely made nice pieces. Credenzas are ridiculously popular on Kijiji. Nice scoring this for free!
ReplyDeleteBut, you know, being 9 1/2 months pregnant and all, maybe leave off the sanding and refinishing for a few more weeks? :) All the best to you, and your soon-expanded family!!
Hi Jen, Oh don't worry my husband has hidden the sander! Yah he will be tackling the sanding and possibly refinishing if it gets done before the baby gets here! And yes the angled drawers are my favourite thing as well. I willn keep you posted on how it turns out!
