A kitchen just like us!

The eating area of our home is located in our kitchen. Exactly what we wanted: a Cozy, sunny welcoming area with items that mean something to us. Here is the mood board for our kitchen:

It will be a uncluttered area with just things that are beautiful or meaningful to us and tell a story. The main elements are shown above but will be injected with a ton of DIY, hopefully, so here we go:

1- The table shown above cost 1800$, we will attempt to make one out of reclaim wood very similar to this one.
2- The chairs will certainly not be white. We are on the hunt for chairs with a similar shape and we'll recover them with durable fabric that can handle a food swirling toddler.
3-We will repurpose our chandelier in order to make it look like the one shown above and we'll attempt to fine a bench where pillows will make for a cozy and comfortable sitting area.
4- As mentionned before our house has lots of windows. In order to inject some of our ethnic background in the room the curtains will be made of Kinte. The cloth from Ghana use to make clothes. Jean-Talon street in the Park Extension borough will surely be a gold mine in finding some kinte in blue with accents of yellow or orange!
5- Finally we will blow up a picture of our home land (above is an image of le Coin de mire in Mauritius) to put on the wall. We'll flip a coin to see if it will be Mauritius or Ghana that will have the privilege to be on our wall. We will make it as big as possible.

We will accessorize as we go on and for years to come finding corky treasures along the way. We are looking to incorporate organic accesories as well as punches of color.

We will b e looking for bargains and keep the cost to a minimum! Let the hunting begin!!!!!!

Ready, set, go....to your spatulas

We have to begin somewhere...Last week, we presented our kitchen to the world. We had every intention to do as much Do-it-Yourself (DIY) as possible...But come on! It's good to know your limits once in a while.
Our home is looking patchy. We spent last week end patching holes, cracks and knicks from the walls.

Mr. Kitchen with his patches

Seriously, who wants to paint 12 feet high ceilings, so here comes the part about us knowing our DIY limits: We have hired a painter to do the interior of the house...Hourray! No monkeying on ladders for us. Those colors are just too vibrant (or violent...) for us to even attempt to live with it!
In the meanwhile we have racked the leaves from the front yard...Yes i did say leaves: The previous owner hasn't cleaned the yard since spring 2011.
More spring cleaning to come: Power washing the house, the windows and drive way, cleaning the windows inside, we still have to pick up leaves from the back yard and getting the air ducts professionnaly cleaned.

How about you guys, how is your spring cleaning going?

And on to new things...

This past week has been rock and roll for us...We have packed our apartment and moved on to a new stage of our lives...With our 17 month old baby girl in tow we moved in our new home. Yes!!!We bought our first house. The move was a real test of our patience, psychological and physical strength. Thank the lord for Max (Romeo's brother) and our friends Stéphanie C., Alder and Reynaldo. Having a friend grab your arm and say "come on girl one more box!" was a true gift. On February 29th we started moving at 9 in the morning only to finish the next day at 1:30 A.M.

We are glad we are getting settled in...Finally! Pics of our new home will be posted soon. You will also be able to follow us on our decoration and renovation adventures.

She takes her job seriously...

A quick supper during the move at 10 pm. Alder dropped a whole pizza on the floor

Makay having her first breakfast at our house....
The tradition for the past 5 years is having crepes every Sunday. My awesome husband made it happened for us on the first Sunday. Thank you to Tata Mitoc, Tata Telo, Mimi, Aurelly and Jean-Pierre for helping us clean our kitchen in record time on Saturday!
